I agree! No Matthew, no show.

Well, the dippy actress wanted to leave, so they had to remove her character somehow. Pity the actress playing Sybil wanted ot leave, I don't see much of a career for her in the future. Now Dan Stevens is going away and now we're at a point where two major characters are gone who did keep the plots going.
Could have been done better? I guess so! Preeclampsia RARELY kills, even 100 years ago. And it disappears after the baby is delivered, either immediately or over a period of a few weeks. This destruction of my favorite character was a stab in my heart.

I cannot believe Dan Stevens wanted to leave Downton Abbey! Did he not realize how important his character was? The show will feel more hollow without him, it will be drastically different. I will miss his character so much, needless to say how heart-broken I am for Lady Mary (my favorite character.) Watch the christmas special, stunned is what I was, stunned.

won't be watching Season 4. RIP Matthew and Sybil

LAdy Sybil leaving wasn't so bad, mainly because she was a pretty intense distraction, but her leaving was cliche. It could have been done better and yes, the studios will look at them askance and chances are Downton will falter badly, a slap in the face since after all, Downton MADE them and if they trash a series by walking, it'll infer that they can't be relied on for long term plays or movies that are indeed a series like for example, Harry Potter. What if Radcliffe had walked out?
