Having established her tougher side with her brawling, Nicki Minaj-challenging debut single “Get Out My Way” (“Get out my way bitch, Get out my way”), and the rally-the-ladies follow-up “Talk Shit” (“Talk shit with my girls”), Tommy Boy signee Angi3 forges toward a different direction with the more melodic “Jump In,” a gorgeous, danceable pop song with a retro 80s feel co-written and produced once again by frequent collaborator Good Goose (producer of Mike Doughty, Ninjasonik, B.S., Genesis Be and others). Goose’s thick synth blurts and plinking keys perfectly buttress Angi3’s layered harmonies and infectious chorus. “Dive in, there’s no stopping me/’Cause there’s some kind
of comfort in the deep,” she effervesces between whoa-ohs you won’t be able to get out of your head until at least next week. With a string of sweet-and-sour singles now in her solo arsenal, there’s no mistake even a pop encyclopedia like this Harrisburg, PA native-turned-Brooklynite can talk tough when she wants, and go back to purring silly at a moment’s notice. “Jump In” gives the haters targeted by “Get Out My Way” a big hug and laughs that she was just kidding. How many artists can fit so seamlessly between warm comfort and tough love?
