Researchers from Nokia Research Center were at MWC 2012 to show their indoor location positioning technology, which shows people on a map as they move around indoors. Their research is based on Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, and relies on beacons on the ceiling that track the Bluetooth tags that people are wearing.

The quality of the indoor location tracking is excellent, but the use of beacons on the ceiling will make it complicated to deploy on a large scale.
