FIRST team 2363, Triple Helix, built Genome Epsilon to play the game in the 2013 FIRST robotics competition. In the first 15 seconds of a 2 1/2 minute match, the robot must operate autonomously, and any goals scored count for double points. Our strategy for this year was to build a pickup arm so we could shoot the three disks preloaded in the robot, then pick up two more from the floor and score them. This would give our team a big lead, right at the start of the match. We had trouble picking up two disks at once with our original arm, so we only got 3 disk auto working during the regular season. Over the summer we designed and built a new arm, and finally got 5 disk auto working at IROC. When it worked successfully, these 5 disks were worth 30 points. Our score in this final match was 94 points, so it's obvious how important those autonomously scored disks were.
