The Charmed Life
Sterling smiled to himself. Inviting the cast up had turned out to be a good idea. Demi was enjoying herself immensely. He would wait a bit longer to show her the surprise he had outside.
For the rest of the day, everyone joked around and talked. It had been a while since theyd seen each other, and ever since the filming of Sonny had been put on hold, there hadnt been much getting together. Demi happily showed her guests around the neat house, and time swiftly flew by. For lunch, the guys ordered take out. Over a greasy meal of chicken wings and fries, the guys discussed various sports and acting jobs while the girls ate quietly in the kitchen.
Demi leaned forward. Can I ask your opinion on something? Tiffany looked up and smiled warmly. Of course. Is it about the baby? Demi nodded. I dont think I can raise a child on my own, I can hardly take care of myself. Thats what got me into this mess of a situation in the first place. I trusted a so-called friend. I guess Im just too gullible. Tiffany looked at her and laughed. Demi, you have to calm down. So you made a mistake. Didnt you learn from it? Dont you think its time to move on? Demi shrugged. I guess so Tiffany continued. Dont be so hard on yourself! You gotta start beating yourself up. Only then will you be able to think clearly enough to decide the future of your child.
Thats what I wanted to ask you about, said Demi. If you were in my place, what would you do? Remember, back home, you have a budding acting career and a passion for singing. Youd hate to give all that up, but it might be necessary. Youve got a guy by your side that loves you to death, but can love save you from everything?
Tiffany was quiet for a while. I cant really give you a straight answer. But I know from experience that its a sad thing when a kid has to grow up not knowing who his real mom is.
Sterling waited patiently at the foot of the stairs. Girls take so much longer than guys to get ready, he thought to himself. He, Brandon and Doug were all dressed in dark dapper suits. Tiffany and Demi were upstairs, primping and getting ready. Then the door opened, and Tiffany stepped out. The guys oohed and ahhhed at Tiffanys elegant ensemble. She smiled and waved like one would do in a toothpaste commercial. Her princess-like gown was a royal purple, with rhinestones sprinkling the corseted bodice of the dress. Then she ascended the stairs, holding her poufy skirt up so as not to trip.
And then it was Demis turn. She came out to the landing of the stairs and paused. How do I look? She asked. Sterlings eyes widened and he let out a low whistle. Demi had managed to rock her red and black frock. She was dressed in a black strapless floor length gown; her hair was swept into an elegant up do, and she had on red pumps and a bright red clutch. The gown flowed easily from the jewel encrusted empire waist, making for a very flattering gown. The others oohed and ahhhed and Sterling offered his arm to Demi. Sexy, he whispered in her ear as they headed out the door.
The first thing Demi saw was the beautiful white Mercedes Benz parked in the driveway. She gasped, hardly believing her eyes. For me? Sterling cracked a grin. Oh course. Happy Birthday! He tilted her back and kissed her. Demi was trying not to cry. Wow, its great! Everyone hopped in, and Demi sat in front. Sterling got in the drivers seat. Im really sorry you wont be able to drive it till the babys born, he said. Demi smiled through her tears. Thats just fine. I cant wait! She noticed the presents clustered around her feet. Aw, are these from you guys? The cast grinned sheepishly. Suddenly Demi felt sad. Ill open them when the baby is born, she said, trying to mask her sorrow. By the time the baby is born, I wont be there to give them to him, she thought. And once again, she questioned the practicality of handing her baby off.
