The nocturnal behavior of the European Fire Salamander hunting prey with a lightning fast tongue. If you like this video you can see more of my work at http://www.sciencephoto.com/search?su... Fire salamanders have excellent eyesight being able to detect the slightest movement of their prey which consists of insects, worms and slugs. The Fire salamander prefers cool dark places during daylight hours and becomes active on dusk. The Fire Salamander also is poisonous as indicated by natures ubiquitous warning colors of yellow and black. Large glands sit behind each eye capable of exuding a poisonous alkaloid compound known as samandarines to warn off any potential predators.
