I was inspired by seeing Aleksei Arkhipovsky play the balalaika and had to try one out. Not being a fan of the balalaika shape, I modified my own mandolin design to a 17 inch scale. I also had to make a very sensitive top for low tension strings. I have set it up as a ukulele just to see how it feels. It happens that the balalaika uses the same scale length as a tenor uke.
