This is the fifth in the series; The Music Video: As Art.

On August 1st, 1981; at 12:01 Am EST; those who called their cable provider in advance were treated to the birth of a radical new direction in television entertainment programming. A 24 hour network that lived, breathed, and broadcasted material produced by the artist, at no cost to the network. The artist had a platform for their vision. The audience was able to crawl up in side the head of you favorite artist—a pantheon of sight and sound; MTV was born.

The 1st video ever to air on MTV was of The Buggles 1979 single, Video Killed the Radio Star. The story is of a radio star whose career fell apart after the birth of television. MTV, as of late, appears to mirror that of the radio star. From vinyl to 8-track, From Cassette Tape to compact disk, from walk man to iPod, from a payphone to iPhone; times change; we must remember to enrich the next generation of artist with an appreciation for the formats and artist which came before us.

On Feburary 27th, 2000, Video Killed the Radio Star became the one-millionith video to be aired on MTV; the first & the one-millinionth music video.

From the MTV genoration to the Youtube genoration; Happy Thanksgiving!
