Just minute's before last night's American Idol result was announced and we discovered who would miss out on the chance to perform on next week's season finale, Italian trio Il Volo took to the stage.
We thought they were a little like Il Divo, however it seems that Piero Barone (17), Ignazio Boschetto (16) and Gianluca Ginoble (16)are actually more frequently described as the Mediterranean's very own Jonas Brothers and they certainly shone on Thursday's penultimate results show.
They crooned their way through an incredibly tuneful and vocally pleasing rendition of 'Oh Solo Mio,' and during their performance, took time to walk down to the judges table and sing directly to Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler. we loved the Aerosmith's frontman rock type handshake as they passed by!
And that top note they hit at the end.....amazing! Kudos to the Idol bosses for stepping outside the norm and bringing us a slightly different but still brilliant performance as the season draws to a close.
If you want to see a bit more of Il Volo, then catch their performance tomorrow on CBS' "The Early Show". The performances are designed to promote the may 17 release of their self-titled debut album, produced by hitmaker Humberto Gatica and longtime champion of Italian music Tony Renis.
