Did you know that more than half of pet cats in the U.S. are overweight or obese? According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, this number has gone up significantly over the past several years. Today, 58% of cats are overweight or obese -- which amounts to more than 54 million fat cats! Just like in humans, obesity in pets can lead to diabetes, heart disease, joint pain and mobility problems. It can also mean a shorter life span for your cat. How can you tell if your kitty might need to lose a few pounds?
To determine if a cat is overweight -- or potentially underweight, we conduct a five-point evaluation of the cat's body condition.
