It was way back in 1936 that 6201 Princess Elizabeth set her record breaking non-stop run from London to Glasgow and back. 75 years later she retraces her footsteps with an anniversary working to mark the occasion. Although not quite the exact run in terms of the outlook of the modern main line, timings, pathings, coaching stock, and no water troughs! But worth knowing that this is steam paying it's way onto the modern rail network.

Knowing that getting this run would require a long long drive and hundreds of miles would have to be clocked up in doing so, 852 miles to be exact (Exeter to Dunsyre and back). This would also be my first visit to Scotland aswell. But still determined and not letting distance prevent me from getting this run.

Beginning at Shap Wells 6201 makes hard work as she climbs the 4 mile 1 in 75 gradient with enough steam to spare, the power of the LMS 4 cylinder pacific is easy to tell from the distance. Moving on into Scotland later at dusk 6201 thrashes through Lockerbie station in fine style running a few minutes late. Because of the time 6201 was to conquer Beattock it meant that it would of been too dark to get a shot there so Lockerbie was the only place to get the loco as there's artificial lighting.

The next day Lizzie makes her return working from Glasgow onwards to Crewe, she is seen in full cry along the more easier climb near Abington. A few hours later Lizzie is seen on the northern outskirts of Shap village keeping pace with the less steeper gradients. The last scene concludes with a quick shot of Lizzie passing through Warrington Bank Quay station.
