“If you can’t afford crazy, you can’t afford brilliant.” Astro Teller, captain of Alphabet's moonshot factory, X, describes how a culture that rewards teams for failure can support world-changing innovation.

X is home to the self-driving car and balloon-powered internet, and according to Teller, failure is the way to those moonshot projects. Encouraging teams to take on only the most audacious projects and to fail at them is what leads to profoundly amazing things. If an organization makes failure acceptable, people can stop the bad, and even the good (not great), projects sooner. Saying it and doing it are two different things, which is why creating a culture and environment that encourages taking risks and audacity to support these actions is just as important.
