Available on DVD at http://www.heartspeakproductions.ca Heartspeak Productions and Fraser Region Community Justice Initiatives are pleased to announce the release of Restorative Justice Is The LAW. Supported by findings from neurobiology, corrections and Constitutional and international law, 'Restorative Justice Is The LAW' is Heartspeak Productions' most challenging undertaking to date. The film illustrates that there are obligations and opportunities to respond restoratively at every level of the justice system and that the public interest is served when processes meet human rights obligations and satisfy sentencing objectives set out in the criminal code. It is made clear that a collective dedication to social justice, unalienable human rights and citizen participation in the legal system are as vital to implementing restorative justice as understanding our interconnectedness and creating the conditions for healing in our communities.

Heartspeak Producer Larry Moore explores the common ground between restorative Justice, human rights and the law in conversation with David L. Gustafson (MA, RCC, Fraser Region Community Justice Initiatives), John W. Conroy (Q.C. LL.B. Conroy and Company), Brenda Edwards (Legal Officer/Judicial Justice, Provincial Court of BC), Graham Stewart (MSW, E.D. John Howard Society of Canada, retired), Shannon Moore (Ph.D., Associate Professor, Dept. of Child and Youth Studies, Brock University), Elizabeth Elliott (Ph.D. Associate Professor, School of Criminology, Simon Fraser University), Howard Zehr (Ph.D., Professor, Restorative Justice, Eastern Mennonite University), Carley Julien (Alternatives to Violence Project Coordinator, Victoria Youth Custody Centre and Greater Victoria), Gabor Maté (Physician, Author, Public Speaker), Jonathan Rudin (Program Director, Aboriginal Legal Services of Toronto), Stuart Cadwallader (President, Kulus Consulting and Development), Barry Stuart (Chief Justice, Yukon Territorial Court, retired). (youtube & DVD 48 min.)

Produced by Heartspeak Productions with Fraser Region Community Justice Initiatives Association with funding from The Law Foundation of British Columbia.
