One of several strong thunderstorms that came racing through the island of Montreal from the West during the early-late evening period. Altogether, lightning was illuminating the skies in and around the island for roughly three hours. The storms were set off by a vigorous cold front in combination with high convective available potential energy, good helicity (strong wind shear) and high humidity.

Thunderstorms of this severity tend to be a rarity this late in the Summer, but are still very well possible as long as the conditions are favorable. 2010 was certainly a memorable year for thunderstorms in Southern Quebec and Eastern Ontario - from early April running up until early September.

This footage was taken in SW Pierrefonds, located in Montreal's West Island. Be sure to take a look at my other videos regarding these storms if time permits you. :)
