A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away non-felons hitchhiked. In 1980 after running out of money on a trip to Peru, I flew to Miami instead of Phoenix because it was cheaper. In the several days it took to hitchhike back home to Phoenix, I was stunned by how many times the rides would tell this gaunt 25 year old hitchhiker things that they had probably never told anyone else before in their lives. Spoiler Alert: stories about women, love and betrayal... and a comment from me about men.
Presenter: John Wake
Born and raised in Phoenix, John saw his first hitchhiker in the late 1960s when a semi-hippie looking guy stood on the corner of Thomas Rd and 52nd St with his thumb out while flashing peace signs at random young people passing by until a car pulled over and the guy got in.
