An award winning writer and journalist, and one of the foremost rock journalists since the 1970's. Her books include: "Serge Gainsbourg, a Fist full of Gitanes" which J. G. Ballard named one of his favorite books. A biography of Neil Young, "Reflections in Broken Glass" a cult short story collection, "Too Weird for Ziggy" and her latest, "I'm Your Man: The Life of Leonard Cohen" the New York Times best seller that NPR called "the best biography of the year." When not writing about music, (for MOJO magazine, the BBC, and the UK Guardian newspaper) Sylvie sings and plays ukelele.
Simmons is named as a "principal player" in Paul Gorman's book on the history of the rock music press "In Their Own Write" (Sanctuary Publishing, 2001). A widely regarded writer and rock historian, she is one of very few women to be included among the predominantly male rock elite. She is also the author of a number of books, including biography and cult fiction. Sylvie was born in London, England and lives in the Mission District of San Francisco.
