http://www.homeprosgroup.com How Does Scotchguard work? It works because fluorocarbons have "low energy" (or low polarity) surfaces, which are difficult to adhere to, including stain molecules. The reason the Scotchgard molecules adhere to the fabric is the polar sulfonate groups, which interact strongly to the higher energy fiber surface.
