Artist Charlotte Newson was commissioned to create the first contemporary portrait of Emmeline Pankhurst. Please visit www.charlottenewson,com and www.thepankhurstcentre.org.uk The technique used is a process called photomosaic and the portrait contains 10,000 photo-tiles. The BBC and Radio Four - Womans Hour broadcasted interviews with the artist who asked for people to send in photos of women who had inspired them - celebrating the extraordinary in the ordinary lives of women today - people sent in photos of their mums, grandmothers, sisters, wives, aunties, teachers and best friends from across the globe to make this happen.
