SHERMAN, TX--- Share the road and look twice. That's the main concept behind the Texas Department of Transportation's latest campaign that was launched as part of National Motorcycle Safety and Awareness month.

As Texas roadways become increasingly crowded, the campaign reminds drivers to use caution around motorcycles, especially when changing lanes or at intersections.

TxDOT officials said these two locations are two of the most common places where serious accidents occur. Texoma motorcycle specialists said there are several safety measures motorcyclists can take in order to prevent crashes.

"They need to pay attention to their surroundings," said Harley Davidson motorcycle specialist Jode Paris. "They need to look for potholes, wear reflective clothing so they can be seen, get louder pipes so they can be heard and wear protective gear."

Paris said some safety measures drivers can take are never driving while distracted, never tailgating and allowing three to four seconds of following distance when driving behind a motorcycle.
