http://thefirstsupper.com See below for update June 2013. You do not need animal protein to build muscle. I have eaten a 100% plant-based diet since 1985, 99% raw since 1999 and 100% raw since 2001. No pills, powders or gimmicks either. After you understand REAL NUTRITION, do it right, and discover efficient fitness, you will be in the best shape and certainly the best health of your entire life. REAL HEALTH means zero suffering from "colds" or "flu, no more undue fatigue and remarkable endurance.-even over 50. Please forgive the jumpy nature of this vid! It was totally impromptu.

I own a brick & mortar fitness center & teaching kitchen in Glen Cove, New York. Been training men & women since the mid eighties. I specialized in helping heal bad low backs, knees and joints, especially as it relates to fitness and athletics. Having poor leverages for excelling in weight training, I always had to work much harder and smarter to try to put even a little muscle on my tall lanky frame. When I started I was six feet tall 133 lb. Gaining up to 200 on the SAD (Standard American Diet) was not easy, even though I consumed the proper amount of calories, carbohydrates and especially protein. But after years of training I was lucky to discover how to eliminate animal products and consume a plant-based diet.

I discovered that calories not protein per se (eat more calories and you will obviously get more protein) were the key to strength and increasing lean tissue. My company "The Best Weigh" was based on that premise: To create truly healthy lean tissue and eliminate as much excess fat tissue as possible for optimum body composition.

The fringe benefit of proper exercise (which prioritizes strength training as the number one component) is optimized body composition. I never once called myself a "bodybuilder". I am interested mainly in health (measured by ending colds and flu, including all other suffering from ANY illness or physical problems.

Animal protein is the main culprit in heart disease and many serious cancers. But together with processed foods it causes all types of misery and suffering - you see it all the time as people are always taking meds for one thing or another! (WTF?) Refined and cooked foods contribute greatly to chronic illness - most people have no idea how much! There is much history and extremely relative proof on this. (As opposed to single pieces of nonsense data that is funded by industry to help support their marketing position.)

The Protein Myth is alive and well. I know of nobody who adopts a whole food plant based diet who ever regrets it (unless they are ignorant of nutrition fundamentals, which unfortunately includes most of the population! THANKS to food/drug marketing and advertising!). Those who eat more than 5% animal protein (or even protein in general over 10% of calories in their diet) will always be slightly bigger, but they will also be a lot sicker. This is so obvious when you eliminate all animal products from your diet. Those who argue otherwise have simply never tried it long enough - plain and simple.

But now, I weigh at least ten pounds more than when I made this video in 2009 and am stronger at age 54 than when I was 25. This continues to be an interesting experiment.
