In this video I do another boil test on the Esbit Solid Fuel Stove Set using an Esbit cube, but this time I use a U-shaped wire form to raise the pt up out of the potstand. I think this is a better variation to the canteen cup stove solution where I used two nails. I used a U-shape rather than a V-shape because I wanted the wire supporting the pot out towards the pot side as I could get it so it would mostly be out of the direct flame path. That way hopefully the wire won't act like a heat sink.

I also raised up the Esbit cube about an inch using the inverted cottle wick burner as a base that way the alcohol burner could be included in the set to be used as needed. Lifting the Esbit up an inch makes the space between the cube and the pot bottom only about an inch. esbit does seem to work better with less head space.

This time the boil test actually brought two cups of water to boil and had plenty of time left over to make it safe water to drink, bug-wise at least.

I get the idea that the Esbit Solid Fuel Stove set has a design flaw in it but after making a couple of easy modifications it works pretty good.
