The Iowa Hawkeyes appeared in eight Bowl Games during the 1980's, including two Rose Bowls. In 1985, Iowa quarterback Chuck Long finished second to Bo Jackson in the narrowest Heisman Trophy race ever. Head Coach Hayden Fry has been credited with breaking the 'big two, little eight" status quo of the Big Ten, as well as for introducing the conference to a wide open style of offense, effectively ending the "three yards and a cloud of dust" stereotype.
