Typical craft item made by French POWs held in England during the Napoleonic Wars. Restored by Alan Dewey, who also narrates the video. Restorations by Alan Dewey: The cog mechanism and the spindle did not work before the restoration, plus whoever had tried to fix it in the past had no understanding of how a spinning wheel of any sort worked, so the whole piece was a mess. "Jenny's" stool also had to be repaired, as did the automata effects (moving head and arm).
