The Frisch Marionettes "The Illusion of Life" was created in 2004 and designed specifically for our theater space in Pleasant Ridge, Ohio. The main character is Dr. Coppelius who arrives home on Halloween to find his abode bewitched!
We played heavily with the shifting perceptions one might experience in a dream. Scarves flying outside the window are Spirits dancing. Coppelius discovers one of these scarves that has landed on the sill. Dr. Coppelius has befriended the little ghost as the midnight hour approaches. Dr. Coppelius (a doll maker) hopes to impress his friend with one of his creations, a witch! Peek-A-Boo is frightened by the witch and so the Dr. shelves it. As the clock strikes midnight we find that the good Doctor's abode is not only haunted by a friendly ghost but bewitched by one of his own creations.
