From the Henry Beston Society (www.henrybeston.org)
Autumnal easterlies and November tides having scoured from the beach its summer deeps of sand, the high seasonal tides now run clear across to the very foot of the dunes. Under this daily overflow of cold, the last of the tide-rim hoppers and foragers vanish from the beach. Any ice wind blusters; I hear a dry tinkle of sand against my western wall; December nears, and winter closes in upon the coast. -- Henry Beston, "The Headlong Wave," from "The Outermost House"
These words still ring true today on the very same beach that Beston stayed on 80 years ago. Take a walk with us on a short video excursion down Coast Guard Beach in Eastham as "winter closes in upon the coast."
