Approximately 300 Marines from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit are headed aboard the USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19) as part of a disaster relief assessment team in response to Hurricane Matthew.

The 24th MEU has 5-7 MV-22B Ospreys from their Aviation Combat Element, that will operate from the USS George Washington (CVN 73), once tasked.
