Walter Gieseking, piano - Brunswick recoring, circa 1927
Walter Niemann (1876-1953), prominent German composer-critic-arranger-musicologist. Niemann, in some of his works, seemed to aspire to being another Debussy, and "Silver Cascades" provides a very worthy example.....one of the most achingly beautiful piano works ever written, IMHO.
Gieseking recorded this twice: the first time was for Welte Piano Rolls, and realized in stereo in the massive "Welte Legacy" series in 1963.
