Before garnering multiple award nominations embodying the grit of the Wild West, Jeff Bridges starred in this true gem of a film, a light hearted look at the classic Hollywood Western and those who made them. Overlooked at the time of its release by an audience put off by its poetic but opaque title, HEARTS OF THE WEST is a jewel ripe for rediscovery. Produced in the wave of '70s "Hollywood historicals", HEARTS OF THE WEST tells the tale of a young writer and Western fan who goes west as a young man and through a combination of crime and happenstance finds himself stepping into a pair of celluloid spurs. Directed by Howard Zieff with Blythe Danner, Andy Griffith and Alan Arkin bringing their "A" game to this B-movie homage (Arkin would win the NY Film Critic's Best Supporting Actor award for his performance).
