This Is In Loving Memory Of Someone Who Was Like A Sitster To Me... Shay Will Be In My Heart Forever... I Love You Shay With All My Heart. R.I.P
A 22-year-old Topeka woman (Shaylee) was ejected and killed in a one-vehicle rollover accident Saturday afternoon on Interstate 470 in southwest Topeka. A Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck rolled over about 2 p.m. and came to rest on its wheels in the eastbound passing lane of I-470 just south of the S.W. 25th Street overpass. The Kansas Highway Patrol on Saturday evening identified the fatality victim as Shaylee Oxy, who was ejected from the passenger seat. The diver of the pickup, Aryanna P. Declerck, 20, of Topeka, was listed by the highway patrol as possibly receiving injuries. Authorities said Shaylee wasn't wearing a seat belt, but Declerck was harnessed in. The truck sustained extensive rollover damage, with contents from the vehicle strewn across the roadway in all directions. Highway patrol Trooper Marcus Seirer said the accident occurred when Declerck moved the vehicle from the right lane into the passing lane on I-470 to overtake traffic. The occupants apparently then noticed a vehicle coming up behind the pickup in the passing lane, Seirer said, and Declerck swerved left into the grassy median that divides the highway to keep the approaching vehicle from potentially hitting the back of the pickup. Tire marks show the truck traveled 30 to 40 feet in the grass before turning right to get back onto the highway. It was at this point, Seirer said, the vehicle's tires hit the pavement and Declerck overcorrected to the left, which rolled the pickup at least one time and possibly twice. Seirer said the pack of traffic in which the truck was traveling was going about 60 mph. The truck came to rest on its wheels in the passing lane facing west with its hood up, windshield severely shattered and the passenger side of the cab caved in. Declerck and Shaylee were taken by American Medical Response ambulance to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center. Shaylee was pronounced dead at the hospital. Traffic on I-470 was allowed to pass through the accident scene, though there were backups in both directions of the roadway as it runs north and south through that area of the city. Eastbound traffic on I-470 was backed up past the S.W. 21st Street exit as late as 3:50 p.m., and traffic on the S.W. 21st Street ramp to eastbound I-470 was reportedly backed up onto S.W. 21st Street. The westbound lanes of I-470 returned to normal traffic patterns about 3 p.m. Topeka police officers assisted with the highway patrol's investigation.
