As was rumored, Senate Republican members of the Environment and Public Works Committee boycotted the markup of the climate change bill this morning. Only Sen. George Voinovich eventually showed up, and only to read a statement and lodge a complaint with Chairman Barbara Boxer.
Senate Democrats highlighted the use of partisan politics to derail a vote. "During my time in the Senate I have been part of very heated disagreements, but they have been disagreements on the merits, the substance," said Senator Arlen Specter. "But you can't disagree with an empty chair."
