http://www.kiva.org - Kiva lets you make a loan to a specific low-income entrepreneur -- empowering them to lift themselves out of poverty.

Lilly, Zambia, Services

Lilly is a 24-year-old woman who lives in Solwezi. She was born into a family of five in which she is the last born. She is a model young entrepreneur who runs her own mobile money transfer business. After getting her college diploma in Business Administration, she opted not to look for employment but rather started her own business in which she has managed to employ one person and hopes to employ more.

For Lilly there is more to owning and running a business than just transacting money. She believes that social entrepreneurship is the best way to go and her kind of business is ideal because it is located where the people are and the atmosphere it creates is welcoming rather than the cold, detached feeling of a bank. Lilly also believes that her business has the added advantage of being cheaper, faster and easier to access than the post office or commercial banks.

When she gets the loan money Lilly intends to fix her booth which she currently uses to serve her customers. Her booth is not in good condition, it leaks when the rains come and has no proper shelter for her customers. She would like to get a new booth and needs help to do this; it will also help her to expand her business which is her goal as a young businesswoman.

In this video, Lilly is being interviewed by a representative from Mobile Transactions.
