Retracing John Steinbeck's "Travels With Charley" trip: On Sept. 22, 2010, I slept with the yachts on the Sag Harbor pier in the back of my RAV4 -- the first of 20 times I'd do so. I went out to Steinbeck's house at about 7 a.m., pulled into his driveway and then shot a little video of the trip by road and three ferries to New London, Conn. On the long ferry ride from Orient Point I met Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist john Woestendiek and his dog Ace, who were also chasing Steinbeck's ghost -- but at a slower pace than I was. John was using Ace's bandana to wipe off Ace's "eye boogers."Read the details of my trip retracing John Steinbeck's "Travels With Charley" route in my Amazon.com book "Dogging Steinbeck."
