Visakha Bucha Day is one of the most important days in Buddhism because of three important incidents in the life of The Buddha, the birth, the enlightenment and the passing away, miraculously fall on the same month and date, the Vesak full moon day. So each year, Buddhists throughout the world gather together to perform the worship to recollect the wisdom, purity and compassion of the Buddha.
All visitors to northern Thailand who are interested in joining the procession up to Doi Suthep are most welcome. You are not expected to be Buddhist, nor would anyone in Thailand attempt to convert you to Buddhism if you should choose to participate. The Thais, in the tradition of Buddhist thought respect you for your beliefs whatever they might be and would never try to convince you that you should follow Buddhist thought.
There are many people come to join this event, not only for Thais or Buddhists. This event all welcome expats or foreigner who interest to join. We walk around 15 kilometers to Doi Suthep Temple. We walk pass 3 temple and 3 waterfalls before we reach Doi Suthep Temple. While we walk up to Wat Doi Suthep, if you feel tired, there are too many station for rest, In each station prepare Snacks & Drink for everyone. All people enjoy & delight in the most important day of Buddhism.
So, if you wish to join in the procession, please do. You'll find it an incredibly sincere participation in one of the world's major philosophies of life.
