Clinton CT Morgan Building Committee, previews Newman Architects presentation which will be presented to the public the public Tuesday December 11, one day prior to the Town Meeting to approve the purchase of additional property at 69 Killingworth Turnpike for $350,000 to complete this project. At 19:30 into the video, the architect reveals plans to build this building right to the edge of the wetlands and to cut into the slope from Killingworth Turnpike to the Indian River to lower the elevation of the footing of the building to just above the banks of the river. This violates wetlands regulations, which require a 5 ft set back of any building from wetlands. It also jeopardizes the lower level classrooms to spring flooding of the river. Listen to the innocuous questions asked by members of the Boards of Education, Finance and Selectmen at the end. No one picked up on this apparent flaw. Nor did anyone ask about pesticide contamination reported by Environmental Consulting Services on June 29. Important issues are falling through the cracks as group think and fixation on a new school have set in.
