(MIAA clarifies that passengers are free to choose what kind of taxi they want to ride and that they will not stop passengers to go up to the depature area to get a regular taxi)

"I would like to apologize to the people who were offended and discomforted for the incident." Jose Angel Honrado, MIAA General Manager

Terminal 3 Airport, Metro Manila, Philippines
Security guards closed and blocked the terminal 3's upper level exit gate to prevent passengers from exiting to get to the loading bay of the regular metered taxi.

Mr. Raymond Domingo and Ms. Leni Velasco of Dakila (www.dakila.org.ph) share their opinions on the situation. You be the judge.

In the end, after waiting for over an hour, they allowed us to exit and we were able to get a regular metered taxi at the "LOADING" bay of the Departure Area.

Last night, a group of passengers protested against NAIA 3 management for closing all exit doors and banning regular taxis from loading passengers, leaving people with no choice but to ride airport taxis, which charge at higher rates.

It has been said that NAIA 3 management has implemented the policy for 3 days without the knowledge of passengers. Last night, however, these passengers stood their ground and asserted their right to choose the mode of transportation they want.

Passengers were overheard saying, "Tinatanggalan ninyo kami ng karapatan." "Kung hindi tayo maninindigan, patuloy nilang gagawin ito." And "Okay lang ang kaunting hassle sa atin ngayon, dahil pag napatupad ito, lahat maaabala."
