Since its creation, Arnold Schönberg's "Gurre-Lieder" has stood at the pinnacle of classical music. Requiring an enormous 150-strong orchestra and equally large choir, the piece - with its high demands on both musicians and listeners alike - had never before been performed in China. The Chinese premiere of Arnold Schönberg's "Gurre-Lieder" was performed on October 22, 2015 in Shanghai Symphony Hall.
