Megan Summers and Anthony Wood from Screwtape Studios talk about the development of their first PC game and the expansion of their studio.

They break down Damsel from conception to development as well as talk about the funding and marketing of indie games.

Since starting Damsel, Screwtape have expanded the team to 6 and are aiming to continue expanding. One of their main aims has been to grow to a size where they could support a small team and contribute to the long term success of the Brisbane games industry.

Meg has been working in the games industry for over 8 years. During this time she has worked on and shipped over 10 titles from AAA console to indie mobile. After starting her career as a quality assurance tester she worked her way to co-founding Screwtape in 2010. Megan has spoken at workshops and panels around Australia and recently spoke on a panel at PAX Aus 2015. Megan is also an enthusiastic advocate for diversity in games, and is especially passionate about encouraging more women to join the industry.

Anthony has been in the games industry for 5 years, spending most of his time as the lead programmer and creative director at Screwtape, where he has worked on 5 mobile titles as well as contributing to the hit games Ski Safari: Adventure Time and Hand of Fate for Defiant Development. As Co-Founder, Anthony spends a lot of time wearing many hats; contributing to marketing, financials, administration, and many other areas vital to the survival of the studio. He has also recently come on board as an associate lecturer of games design at SAE QANTM's Brisbane campus.

Screwtape Studios was founded in 2010. Anthony finished his games degree at QUT just as the games industry in Brisbane was collapsing. At the same time Megan was finishing a senior QA contract at THQ Oz. The time was right to take the plunge and begin working for themselves. They have built a number of mobile games including: Conduction, Bank Job, Zen Snake and the Right Pedal Studios published Verby.
