This method only works if there is no bootloader password setup or you know the bootloader password.
On the default bootloader screen, press any key to stop the countdown. Select Kernel line and press 'e'-to edit the line. Add 's' or '1' or single and press enter, followed by 'b' inorder to boot into single user mode.
passwd will only work in permissive mode, to check the SElinux mode, type getenforce, if its enforcing, type setenforce 0 or else type passwd in order to change the password.
