Tarek Rakha is an Egyptian architect and a PhD Candidate in Building Technology, Department of Architecture at MIT. He was a Doctor of Design student at Harvard University prior to his move to MIT. He received a B.Sc. in 2007 and a M.Sc. in 2010 from Cairo University, and he was an assistant lecturer and researcher at the American University in Cairo.Tarek is a Certified Passive House Consultant in the US, and his doctorate work at MIT focuses on developing simulation tools and metrics for architects and urban designers to assess the walkability and bikeability of neighborhoods, with emphasis on outdoor thermal comfort and activity-based modeling. He found a passion for human-powered transportation, and he wants to share it with you!

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
