Cross Keys see off Pontypridd to reach last eight

A PULSATING encounter at Pandy Park saw Cross Keys throw the form guide out of the window to squeeze past Pontypridd and into the quarter-finals of the Swalec Cup by the narrowest of margins.
Just one point separated the two sides as Dai Flanagans last-gasp drop goal 12 minutes into injury time fell agonisingly short of the crossbar, sparking cup final-style celebrations from the Keys players.
Ponty, who had won 60-0 on their visit here in the league, raced into a 13-0 lead early on thanks to a touchdown from wing Owen Williams and the boot of Kristian Baller.
But Keys hit back with 21 unanswered points with tries from wing Marcus Johnstone, centre Phil Williams and impressive hooker Lloyd Burns.
Substitute Dai Flanagan kept Ponty in the hunt with the boot, and when lock Chris Dicomidis finished off a superb handling move late on to close the gap to a point it was set up for a tense finale.
But Keys ran the clock down well and kept Ponty out of range just.
