A camera moves across a library desktop late one evening, after a historian has left for the night. Zooming in on Dr Sam Crawford's diagram of antebellum Fort Moultrie in the year 1860, located on Sullivan's Island in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina, a 3D model suddenly emerges from this page. After circling around in a panoramic pass, the camera swoops directly down into its inner courtyard and then reverses out through its main gates, before returning into the darkened silence of the study.
