Inadequate funding for research has contributed to programs' inability to adequately address TB, the world’s leading infectious killer. The first-ever Ministerial Conference on ending TB will be held in Moscow in Nov. 2017 and will feature 8 thematic areas—one of which is Scientific Research and Innovation. We have just under 6 months before this Ministerial Conference to ensure strong, concrete commitments for TB research funding come out of it. Speakers will cover why TB research is essential and set funding targets, walk through an example for garnering national commitment for investment in TB research from India, present global leadership on TB research, and propose a concrete “ask” for TB research to come out of the Ministerial Conference.
Moderator: Marcus Low, Spotlight editor; former head of policy at Treatment Action Campaign (TAC)
Speakers:
* Mike Frick, Senior TB/HIV Project Officer, Treatment Action Group
* Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research
* Dr. Mario Raviglione, Global Tuberculosis Programme Director, World Health Organization
