A series of 23-day tests, which will be replicated on different bolts over a period of several months, is underway on the new Bay Bridge project. Unlike the bolts that broke under pressure, these bolts have all passed their tests and are nowunder pressure at Pier E2. These stress corrosion tests are designed to subject rods and bolts to extreme conditions to find out exactly what their breaking point is.
