Noted progressive educator Eleanor Duckworth worked with eminent Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget early in her career. "I learned that you can't change what children believe by telling them to drop that and believe something else," she says. Since then, she says, she's found that you can't change what ANYONE believes by telling them to drop that and believe something else. This applies to understanding of the physics of the world around us, people's ideas of their own capacities, finding the multiple layers of a poem, complex political questions. So, Eleanor asks, "How can we affect someone's beliefs, if telling them something different does not work?" Take a journey with her as she listens to students.

About TEDx
x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
