Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows: An Introduction to Carnism by Melanie Joy, Ph.D., Ed.M.

Melanie explains the invisible belief system (carnism) that shapes our perceptions of the meat (and eggs/dairy) we eat, so that we love some animals and eat others without knowing why. Using powerful imagery, thought-provoking analyses, and a compelling narrative, Dr. Joy shows how carnism conditions us to unknowingly act against our core values, our own interests, and the interests of others. Armed with this information, we can become more informed consumers and empowered citizens.

President of Carnism Awareness & Action Net-work, Dr. Joy is a Harvard-educated psychologist, professor of psychology and sociology at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, She has written a number of articles on psychology, animal protection, and social justice. She has been featured on BBC, National Public Radio, PBS, ABC Australia, and Good Morning Croatia, as well as in Slovenia's Jana, the Austrian Der Standard and the Italian Le Scienze Dr. Joy is also the author of Strategic Action for Animals.

Recorded Tuesday, August 13, 2007 at Ala Wai Golf Course Clubhouse in Honolulu and edited by William Harris, M.D., author of 'The Scientific Basis of Vegetarianism" www.vegsource.com/harris/
