There is often the question of why Iran "wastes" money on Palestine and Lebanon, while Iran itself has so many poor people in its own country. Hassan Abbasi attempts to provide an answer by talking a little about history. (On this point, everyone is welcome to disagree in the comment section of this video on whether or not Iran should even be involved in Arab conflicts with Israel which outwardly seems to baffle many people given that it is interpreted to go against Iran's own interests, i.e. what does Israel and its problems have to do with Iran?).
He says that in 1988, Iran's Sahand ship was sunk in Operation Praying Mantis by the US. He further elaborates that the Sahand had not moved 20 km until it was destroyed from the air. He then goes on to say how millions, if not billions of dollars can vanish in a matter of minutes with these expensive ships if they face the West's superior military power. He said that this was more than obvious when the US invaded Iraq and billions upon billions of military material was useless and was put down within a single day. At this point, he says that it is much cheaper and much more efficient for Iran to hire militias in the Middle East for its own military plans, both defensive and offensive. The example he cites for the effectiveness of these militias is the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war.
Additionally, he says that spending money in these areas come out of Iran's defense budget. Helping the poor within the country is supposed to come out of other departments in Iran and not that of defense. If other departments are doing a lousy job, why should the department of defense be punished?
