Tactical analysis of Sevilla vs. Manchester United in the Champions League.
Jose Mourinho's men face Vincenzo Montella’s Sevilla on Wednesday at 19:45pm in the Champions League last 16 clash. Manchester United finished top of group A on 15 points ahead of Manchester City’s last 16 opponents FC Basel. Current Europa League champions Manchester United first play away to Sevilla, a side that has won the Europa League a record five times. Montella has played a 4-2-1-3 so far during his time as Sevilla manager and will look to play that formation against Manchester United. Paul Pogba missed the 2-0 win against Huddersfield in the FA Cup due to illness, but is set to be back for the crucial Champions League tie.
Mourinho should look to play through the Sevilla high press in order to expose their high line with through balls. Lukaku scored twice against Huddersfield getting in behind their defence using his power and pace. Pogba should roam deep into his own half, get on the ball and then look to dribble through pressure to unlock the Sevilla block. Manchester United should also target Jesus Navas with crosses from the right wing. The former Man City winger would be no match for Romelu Lukaku’s ability in the air.
