Overseas National Airways (ONA) DC-10 Crash during take off at JFK on Nov 12, 1975. All 139 passengers and crew were ONA employees, and, because 'death took a holiday', there were NO fatalities. I'm convinced that it was one of God's Miracles that our lives were spared that day! Cause: Bird strike! (Note: SO much was learned from that crash....how to better certify aircraft engines, better placement of the 'black boxes', escape path lighting, much more emphasis on bird control at airports etc.) Nowadays a typical bird strike will most likely not cause 'rotor imbalance' and the engines will probably stay attached to the wing (as in the case of the U.S. Airways Hudson River landing!)
