The soundtrack of this work applies wavetable and granular synthesis to the production of signals combined and sequenced in a formal structure of exposition, fragmentation and condensation. Pitch, onset and duration data derive from a time-compressed performance of "La Cathédrale engloutie" by Claude Debussy. The video consists of over one hundred edited clips of immersion baptisms. "Les Baptistes englouties" was recognized as a Selectionée in the 34e Concours Internationaux de Musique et d'Art Sonore Electroacoustiques de Bourges; and, the soundtrack was performed as "La peine de Niobé" in the Projet Œuvre Ouverte: La Mélancolie in the 37e Festival Synthèse Bourges, both held at the Institut International de Musique Electroacoustique de Bourges (IMEB) in Bourges, France. The work was also a selected alternate for the 2007 International Computer Music Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, and finally received its concert premiere at the 2009 Spark festival of Electronic Music and Arts at the University of Minnesota.
