I will never ever ever accept this as "Samba"! I understand that the "international ballroom samba dance" it isn't the same as samba de gafieira, but then don't say this dance comes from Brazil and name it Samba!!! Not even the rhythm of the song were alike. The only thing that could remember very little of samba are the hips shaking, but that's it.

Samba (Zambra) was introduced to America by African slaves since 17th century. In the shows, they played Zambra music and sung and moved their body rhythmically, then it became a style of dancing. Samba dance was developed in Brazil but not only in Carnival show style. The African slaves in Brazil danced different type of Samba in the sugar plantations. Later in Botafogo, a place near Rio, people from lower society danced Samba as partner dance in street clubs. This type of Samba dance was introduced to Europe and was further developed in England as ballroom Samba for social and competition purposes as what it is now.

I promise you! In every video with the ballroom samba , there will be at least one comment from Brazil, saying that this is not real Samba!

That's a very nice style of dancing, get over it brazilians, we don't have to go out beating in our chest and screaming that this is diferent from our national pryde. They did it with our argentins neighbors and their tango too. The question is that dance was being adapted through the years and different places, like many others things. You can't maintain things "pure" forever. For those who're interestead that's a very nice performance of the brazilian samba (gafieira): /watch?v=zTIeIdVbL_w

Loved Mariya and Vladimir (the Russian couple) - they moved perfectly with the music; nice interpretation as usual.
